Lapicida natural stone surfaces offer both style and substance

A melding of traditional stonemasonry and high-tech process sets Lapicida apart, enabling them to offer both natural stone and stone-alternative products for virtually any situation.  TSJ investigates.

Lapicida is a Yorkshire company with a strong international reputation.  Working with top architects and designers as well as individual customers globally, the company operates from a three-acre showroom and workshop complex in Knaresborough.

The perfect place to seek inspiration, the showroom displays hundreds of products on walls, floors and in roomsets. Move outside to see walls, terracing and ornamental elements; from balustrading and statuary to pool surrounds. On the same site, Lapicida’s stonemasons work alongside technicians operating advanced Breton 5 Axis machines. This melding of traditional stonemasonry and high-tech process sets Lapicida apart, enabling them to offer both natural stone and stone-alternative products for virtually any situation and a wide range of budgets.

Artis is a carefully curated collection created specifically for the trade, featuring a wide selection of their finest surfaces. All the designs included in the collection are suited to both commercial and domestic projects, bringing all the warmth and beauty of natural stone to various interior settings. Some of the most popular designs from the collection are detailed below:

Nero Parquet Limestone is the ideal choice when looking to add drama and texture to interiors. The tiles are suitable for walls and floors and can be laid in varying arrangements, such as a herringbone style or a metro tile look, helping to make a statement in both classic and contemporary settings. The collection can also be matched or juxtaposed with other surfaces, making it highly versatile. Available in a 250 x 70 x 15mm format.

Reclaimed – for the purist – Lapicida supplies a wide selection of English and European reclaimed flags and terracotta tiles. Offering beauty and authenticity, the ability to repurpose an existing surface is an ethical and environmentally sound choice.
Sticking with a more neutral colour palette, Biblical is a cream-coloured limestone with a chiselled finish. The antique look of the surface brings both texture and tone to interior schemes. Tiles are suitable for internal walls and available in three colourways, Ivory, Dark Grey and Gold, as well as two size formats: random x 100mm and random x 400mm. External applications are dependent on climate. Biblical is also available in Dark Grey and Grey Gold.

Marble is always a top trend.  Highly decorative, it is perfect for bringing drama and sophistication to interiors. Inspired by the striking architecture of New York, Lapicida’s new Gramercy Park collection offers a range of contemporary marble surfaces. In a palette of three classic colourways – Ivory, Soft Grey and Veined Black – the range features five tile designs in geometric patterns alongside plain honed designs. Slab options ideal for skirtings, architraves, vanities, and shower trays are also available.

Classic black and white chequerboard floors have their origins in ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome.  Today, chequerboard floors bring geometric drama to contemporary interiors and are very much in-keeping with the current trend for decorative, feature floors.  Part of the Artis range, Lapicida’s Venetian marble tiles can be combined to create dramatic chequerboard floors and bring a modern classicism to the home. No longer resigned to the hallway, interior designers are increasingly using black and white stone tiles in other areas of the home, including bathrooms and kitchens. Venetian Black and Venetian White is available in a tumbled finish in a 406 x 406 x 20mm format.

Lapicida’s Artis range also includes a number of beautiful indoor/outdoor options which are highly durable, hardy and frost-proof enough to weather the hardest winter. Linking indoor and outdoor spaces – even if it’s only a small garden or terrace – can help create the illusion of greater space, making interiors feel larger. Limestones such as Bordeaux are available in several colourways, ranging from warm grey and pale beige to blue-grey, offering endless design possibilities for outdoor areas.

Alongside Artis’ extensive stone offering, the collection also includes several highly decorative new-generation porcelains and ceramics. All products in the range are held in stock, ensuring for fast and reliable delivery.
