A family from Belgium has created a sun-blessed holiday home that can be used almost all year round on Spain’s stunning Costa Blanca, with the help of tiles from Agrob Buchtal. TSJ reports.
In Alicante province, Spain, a family from Belgium has created a timelessly-elegant villa that makes the most of an impressive location and breathtaking views with bold, crisp architecture, and careful use of materials.
In addition to the location, plot profile, and the architecture itself, the furnishings, accessories, and materials used determine the overall effect of a building. The client had very specific demands with regard to colour and design language: they wanted clear lines and visual axes, no exaggerated colourfulness or exuberant opulence, but rather cultivated minimalism featuring durable finishes with a natural look and understated luxury.
The latter is evident in the choice of floor and wall coverings. These materials, due to the large surface area that they cover, have a decisive influence on the overall aesthetic.
To achieve the very specific look required, the client chose ceramic tiles from Agrob Buchtal’s Quarzit collection. These tiles were specified in consistent, uniform, modular formats (600 by 600mm for the floor, and 300 by 600mm for the walls. These tiles were used both inside and outside to maintain the purity and stringency of the architectural vision.
This seamless connection of the living spaces with the open-air areas (pool, terrace, stairs), and the literally continuous covering of ceramic tiles from the Quarzit collection, has created an homogeneous ensemble that appears expansive, even though the plot area is no more than 1,300 sq. metres.
Intelligent architecture and zoning
The individual areas of the villa also correspond to the general demands mentioned above: everything appears airy and refreshingly unpretentious but, at the same time, has that certain something and embodies stylistic competence at a high level.
The heart of the house is a central room with kitchen, breakfast bar, dining, and living areas. It offers fantastic thanks to generous glass surfaces on the long and short sides, in front of which there are two partially covered outdoor seating areas.
The bathroom is located adjacent in a projecting part of the building and thus combines easy accessibility with the necessary discretion. This important sanitary room is relatively small in terms of surface area, but conveys a pleasant feeling of calm and space thanks to its restrained furnishings and skilful room layout, which accommodates both a bathtub and a large walk-in shower. The attention to detail is remarkable: evident in the well thought-out arrangement of the fittings and the floor and wall tiles, The latter are beautifully detailed, with neat finishes at projections and edges.
The bedrooms are located on the west side of the building on the ground floor and in the cool basement. This is also the location for another small terrace. On this lower floor, 600 by 600mm floor tiles from the Quarzit range were again used, creating a visual link to the upper floor via a matching tiled staircase.
Practical preferences
In order to enjoy the wonderful ambience to the full, and to spend as little time as possible on maintenance, the owners paid attention from the very beginning not only to visual aspects but also to the practical properties of the materials used.
For this reason, the decision was made in favour of glass, stone, anodized metal, lacquered furniture surfaces without handles, smooth leather, and ceramic tiles, The latter, as with many designs from Agrob Buchtal, feature ex-works Hytect surface protection. This innovative coating reduces the cleaning effort to a minimum, eliminates air pollutants and odours, and has an antibacterial effect without the use of chemicals: all aspects which fit into today’s world and offer valuable additional benefits day after day.
